According to an exclusive report received by the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC), many people detained during the January 8 and 9 protests remain in Quchan Prison without a final determination of their cases. Despite severe overcrowding and the possibility of releasing some detainees on bail, proceedings have reportedly been delayed. Some detainees have been sentenced to five or 10 years in prison. Edris Javan and Saeed Jami, two Kurdish citizens, as well as Mohsen Iranlouei and Alireza Kazemi, have been sentenced to death on charges of waging war against God (moharebeh). The initial investigations were conducted at Branch 102 of the Quchan Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office under Mohammadreza Valaei, the investigating judge responsible for economic and security-related offenses. Lengthy prison terms and death sentences were subsequently issued in these cases.Sources also report that some court-appointed lawyers collected substantial payments from the detainees’ low-income families while promising to secure the suspension of their sentences. Some prisoners were reportedly threatened with harsher punishment by judicial officials if they appealed their convictions. These allegations raise serious concerns regarding effective access to legal representation, the right to appeal, judicial independence, and compliance with fair trial standards.@iranhrdc#DigitalBlackoutIran#iran_strikes #iran_human_rights#iranmassacre
