He was the kind of person who turned virtually everything into a contest, whether it was exam scores, sports, or even something as trivial as who could finish a group assignment first. He would constantly ask other students what grades they'd received, and if someone scored higher than him, he'd be visibly unsettled until he figured out how to outperform them next time. What he's particularly competitive about is academic achievement and career progression. He wasn't just aiming to pass his courses — he wanted to be at the top of every single one. He'd spend hours in the library, sometimes pulling all-nighters, just to make sure his essay was marginally better than anyone else's. He also kept a mental record of which companies his peers were interning at, and he would actively seek out more prestigious placements to ensure he wasn't falling behind. It wasn't enough for him to do well; he needed to do better than everyone else.In terms of how successful he is, I'd say he's remarkably successful by any objective measure. He graduated with top honours, landed a job at a leading consulting firm within months of graduating, and has already been promoted twice in the three years since we left university. So his competitive drive has clearly paid off in tangible ways, and I don't think anyone could argue that it hasn't served him well professionally. Now, as for why I think he's so competitive — I believe it stems from his upbringing. He grew up in a household where achievement was heavily emphasised, and his parents constantly compared him to cousins and neighbours' children. From a young age, he internalised the idea that his self-worth was tied to outperforming others. There's also a certain insecurity beneath the surface — I get the sense that if he stops winning, he's afraid he'll stop mattering. It's a double-edged sword, really. The same drive that propels him forward also seems to prevent him from ever feeling truly satisfied. He wins, but he never seems to enjoy the victory for long before he's already chasing the next one. It's impressive to watch, but I can't say I envy him.لینک دسترسی به سوالات پارت یک همین تست 👇t.me/ieltsspeakingassistants/1936%F0%9F%9…
